Abstrakt
The paper tackles the issue of building a community during the Polish Language Arts lessons. Speaking of it we usually think of Polish national community, based on classical Polish novels and poetry. But the long list of books that are obligatory to read at schools does not help build the community – pressure to read does not work. In addition, national community (built solely on patriotic values) is not one that young people – pupils and students – want to be part of. Hundred thousands of youngsters of non Polish nationalities attend our schools. Common reading and debating of literature, that is taking place on PLA lessons, has the power to create community that doesn’t exclude anyone, that is open and inclusive. Teaching literature in itself is more important than the content of it. That is what author tries to articulate.
